Breathe. Bite. Smile.: My New Book on What You Should Know Before Starting Orthodontic Treatment

Every week, I sit across from parents and adults in our Panorama City, Hawthorne, Whittier, and Los Angeles offices. Many arrive with the same worry: they want to do the right thing, but they don't know which questions to ask.

That's why I wrote my first book, Breathe. Bite. Smile.: What You Should Know Before Starting Orthodontic Treatment. It's available now on Amazon.

Why I Wrote This Book

Orthodontic treatment is a big decision. It takes time, money, and trust. Yet most people choose a provider based on price, a quick online search, or a friend's recommendation.

I wanted patients to walk into any consultation, at my office or anyone else's, informed and confident. After years of training at USC and a three-year orthodontic residency at the Georgia School of Orthodontics, I've learned that the best results start with good questions.

This book puts those questions, and honest answers, in one place.

What's Inside

The title says it all. Great orthodontic care is about more than straight teeth.

  • Breathe. How jaw growth and the shape of the palate connect to airway health, and why palate expansion can matter for some patients, especially growing kids.

  • Bite. Why a healthy, balanced bite protects your teeth and jaw joints for life, and what "complex bite correction" really means.

  • Smile. How to compare braces and clear aligners honestly, based on your goals, lifestyle, and budget.

Along the way, I cover the practical side too:

  • When a child should have a first orthodontic check-up, and what early (Phase I) treatment is

  • Whether it's too late to straighten your teeth as an adult (it usually isn't)

  • What a thorough consultation should include, from 3D scans to a clear treatment plan

  • How to understand costs, insurance, Medi-Cal coverage, and payment plans

  • The questions to ask any orthodontist before you sign

Who This Book Is For

  • Parents wondering if their child needs braces now, later, or not at all

  • Teens who want to understand what treatment will feel like

  • Adults who have put off treatment for years and want a straight answer

  • Anyone comparing offers from different orthodontists and trying to make sense of them

It's written in plain language, with no dental degree required. A Spanish edition, written for Spanish-speaking families here in the U.S., is on the way.
