Laser Gingivectomy
Your orthodontist just recontoured your gums to increase the size of your teeth to enhance your smile. Most orthodontists will use some type of anesthetic to make this treatment comfortable. Once you get home please taken over the counter tylenol or advil for the first 24-48 hours as needed. Avoid eating or drinking anything very hot for the first few days. Please swish with salt water for 60 sec 2x day for the first week.
I like to compare this procedure to getting a pizza burn on your gums. I recommend my patients to brush a bit harder on the gum area that was lasered for the first week to keep the shape of the gums as they tend to rebound. The gums should look fully healed after 2 weeks. If you see the gums are not healing or become infected please contact your orthodontist.
Laser Frenectomy
Your orthodontist just removed your upper frenum because the frenum was too close to your upper front teeth. The frenum can also cause a space to form between the upper front teeth.
I recommend my patients do upper lip exercises in order to prevent the frenum from reattaching. Please stretch your upper lip up towards your nose and then side to side 3x a day for 2 min each time. Begin these exercise 48 hours after the procedure.
I like to compare this procedure to getting a pizza burn on your gums. The frenum should look fully healed after 3 weeks. If you see the frenum is not healing or become infected please contact your orthodontist.
Impacted Tooth Laser Exposure (Laser For Tooth Eruption)
Your orthodontist just removed pressure on your gums to allow for your adult teeth to erupt. Most orthodontists will use some type of anesthetic to make this treatment comfortable. Once you get home please taken over the counter tylenol or advil for the first 24-48 hours as needed. Avoid eating or drinking anything very hot for the first few days. I like to compare this procedure to getting a pizza burn on your gums. I recommend my patients to brush a bit harder on the gum area that was lasered for the first week to ensure the gums do not close up. The gums should look fully healed after 2 weeks. If you see the gums are not healing or become infected please contact your orthodontist.
